We’ll travel from the arid shrubland near Chiclayo…

…to the humid Cloud and Elfin Forest above Leymebamba…

…twice crossing the impressive Marañon valley….

…and discovering in the process some of the most scenic places in South America.

A large number of Peruvian endemics are possible, including Chestnut-backed Thornbird…

…lovely Yellow-faced Parrotlets (found only in the upper Marañon valley)…

…and Koepche’s Screech-Owl, sometimes found on their day roost.

We’ll be looking for very localized species, like Yellow-scarfed Tanager restricted to the Elfin Forest…

…the brilliant Tumbes Tyrant, found only in dry forest in the northwest of Peru…

…and the well-named Elegant Crescentchest.

We expect to see around 30 species of hummingbird, including the near-mythical Marvelous Spatuletail.

Besides the birds, we should encounter mammals like Sechuran Fox…

…Collared Peccary…

The vegetation is wonderful as well, including unique cacti…

…and splendid orchids.

We’ll use several lodges located in the birding areas such as Chaparri…

…travel through some rarely visited parts of Peru…

…be exposed to interesting people…

…stunning birds…

…and truly unforgettable scenery.
